The Short Version
I'm JC Cangilla. I live in Los Angeles with my wife Amy and our two kids, Jack (12) and June (5).
I run a consulting practice called Linslow Industries. I lead a men's group. I write when I can. I've run 9 or 10 marathons.
The Longer Version
I grew up in Pittsburgh. Central Catholic High School. Kenyon College, where I played basketball and set a singles season record that probably still stands.
After college, I did City Year (AmeriCorps) in New York, then bounced around consulting and random jobs before landing at Yahoo in 2006. I was there for eight years, watching the platform slowly decline while learning how big companies actually work.
In 2014, I co-founded New Form, a digital entertainment studio. We had Ron Howard and Brian Grazer on our board. We raised money, made shows for YouTube and Facebook, and sold to Discovery/WarnerMedia in 2019.
After that, I went to Meta/Facebook to run a new division. Left in 2023 when it was time.
Now I do consulting through Linslow Industries, working with creative companies on content deals and strategy. I also spend a lot of time on groups: Tuesday Men's Club, Journeymen, SSDG, and a David Whyte study group.
The Personal Stuff
Amy and I met in 2009. I left her a long voicemail as a blind intro from friends. Our first date was April 1st. We surprised our families with our wedding.
Jack was born September 18, 2013. He's into basketball, gaming, and being 12.
June was born November 12, 2020. She's into everything.
We moved to LA from New York in 2009.
The Practice Stuff
I started meditating in 2017 after taking a UCLA MARC course. My first silent retreat was January 2023. I'm currently in a yearlong Buddhist meditation program.
I first encountered David Whyte's work in May 2021. It changed how I think about work, relationships, and what it means to be present.
